I'm Kathryn, also known as Katie. I'm a writer and game developer who has also dabbled in acting here and there. I've been writing stories since I knew how to write and I have never been afraid of speaking in front of others. My passion, more than anything else, is inspiring others to reach their full potential, whether I'm in a leadership position or working alongside others. I believe that everyone has something they do better than others, and I take great joy in finding it and putting it in the perfect place.
I have an A.A.S. in Computer Gaming and Simulation from Montgomery College, where I also participated in an internship with the Potomac Review. I gained a lot of insight into working in publishing through that internship and continued to learn more about writing and publishing at the University of Maryland, where I earned my B.A. in English with an emphasis on Media Studies. The Media Studies concentration gave me some of the benefits of the Communications major in that I learned a lot about film and video game production.
While in college, I decided to make a video game in my spare time. The result was The BOSS, a fan game for Jacksepticeye in which I recruited around 50 people to contribute while heading a core team of about 18 people. In the process, I taught myself how to use RPG Maker VX Ace and later MV, both programming and even a bit of coding. I am familiar with C# and JavaScript, but would like the opportunity to learn more and am currently learning Unity when I have time. The BOSS released on August 7th, 2017 to positive reviews and my social media campaign even made its way to Jacksepticeye, who played the game on his channel in March and April of 2018. The BOSS has been downloaded over 51,000 times.
Since then, I expanded my company and am making a sequel in my spare time, of which about half is finished. The sequel, Glitch in the System, has had almost universally positive reviews and has been downloaded around 15,000 times as of December 2021. You can find it on my GameJolt page linked above, as it is too large to upload here. My goal is to complete that game and move onto original works now that I have completed my education. I've done all of this for free out of love for game design and the larger gaming community, so I hope I can turn this into a career. I would welcome any more experience!
I have experience in management and customer service, and I learned to approach my customers much like my co-workers: as unique individuals who have amazing potential and deserve great service.
I am looking for a writing or game development job, but I am open to anything. I would prefer to work from home but I am open to relocating.
